Along with Flash, Protean Hulk was a piece of a combo deck in Legacy considered to be one of the most powerful in Magic's history. Most combo decks have to strike a balance between speed and consistency but Flash Hulk had both and was subsequently was a legal deck for only one month - which some would argue was still too long.
